Tropical storm warnings issued from Florida to South Carolina

It was a hot, humid, hurricane like day this Memorial Day. Tropical Storm Beryl put a damper on the holiday in Florida. Beryl is the second named storm this year.

The system developed off the coast of South Carolina on Friday night, prompting a tropical storm warning. Hurricane hunter aircraft investigated the storm Sunday evening and reported maximum winds of 70 mph. Forecasters also changed the classification of the system from a subtropical to a tropical storm. It is considered a hurricane when the winds are 74 mph. The storm made landfall in Jacksonville, Florida. We were blessed, this storm brought lots of rain which we needed but not severe for Northern portions of Central Florida, Volusia and Flagler counties in Florida (FOM Mission area). They received 3 to 5 inches of rain, with 1 to 3 inches of rain in the metro Orlando area. No strong winds just rain!

FOM LEADERSHIP TRAINING

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Every three months we have a two day Leadership Training Meeting. It involves all the Zone Leaders, District Leaders, and Trainers (about 47 missionaries).

“True leaders are inspiring because they are inspired, caught up in a higher purpose, devoid of personal ambition.”

That higher purpose, is the Lord’s work. This is why missionaries who truly understand the divine work they are doing (bringing souls to Jesus Christ) have the potential to be great leaders. They follow the example of Captain Moroni, and always stand for God, religion, freedom, and lead by the light of Christ, in their missionary work and in all aspects of their lives.

At this training we had the Zone Leaders teach. They taught how to teach more effectively through prayer, to recognize the Spirit, doctrines and principles and then apply doctrine in their lives. How to teach the Plan of Salvation, Restoration, and Atonement in 15 minutes. The President taught principles of a perfect exchange. And as always, we did ROLE PLAY.

OUR NEWEST HAITIAN ELDER

BAPTISM

The Assistants met "Alice", she is from China. She is in the College Program at Disney. They baptized her last Saturday. It is such a wonderful experience to see these young people come into the church and then to realize that they can go back to their home and bring the gospel to family and friends.

INTERIM MISSION PRESIDENTS' SEMINAR

Sister and Elder Giddens

The Interim Mission Presidents' Seminar was held at the Atlanta Marriott Airport Hotel and began with dinner on Thursday evening. Elder Giddens of the Seventy presided at this opening session.

Elders Allen, Gibbons, and González

The seminar began on Friday morning. Elder Walter F. González of the Presidency of the Seventy presided. We also received instruction from Elder Larry W. Gibbons and Elder Steve B. Allen of the Seventy.

Seventeen missions are in the NASE area so we were able to visit with the other mission presidents and wives. Some of the Area Seventies were also in attendance. We were taught how to use the Book of Mormon in our missionary work and how to respond to questions about the upcoming presidential election and how to use mormon.org.
