Interviews are the best part...this past two weeks we have been interviewing each companionship in their apartments. Interviews are to help each missionary with their stewardship and to render an account of his/her area. We have the opportunity to see them in their own area and how they are doing and how they keep their apartments. We have been stressing clean apartments. The President checks the bedrooms and bathrooms and I check the oven and fridge, kitchen. We check for old furniture and needs. Each apartment has an Area Book and we check each one for neatness, organization and make sure they have the Emergency information. We are happy to report that the apartments have been well kept.

Tropical Storm Debby Breaks Record In 2012 With Early Debut

TROPICAL STORM DEBBY 2012

Tropical Storm Debby missed the Florida Orlando Mission bringing a little over four inches of rain. All our missionaries were safe with no issues. We were very concerned about our friends in the Jacksonville Mission as they received twenty-five inches of rain and flooding conditions.

Tropical Storm Debby, is the fourth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane 2012 season, which set a record —marks the first time in more than 150 years that so many storms have showed up so early.

"This is first time four tropical storms have developed in the Atlantic basin before July 1.

Tropical Storm Debby roared to life over the Gulf of Mexico and attained tropical storm status late in the afternoon on Saturday, June 23.

The first named storm of the season, Tropical Storm Alberto, appeared on May 19, the earliest debut for a named storm since 2003; Tropical Storm Beryl and Hurricane Chris followed.

Storms are christened only once they reach tropical storm strength — meaning organized, rotating storms with maximum wind speeds of at least 39 mph.

Tropical Storm Debby lashed Florida with punishing rains, and produced dangerous storm surges between 4 and 7 feet along the state's panhandle. The storm spawned 20 reported tornadoes.

Debby remained parked over the Gulf of Mexico, with much of the severe weather hitting to the east of the center of the storm, Tampa and Jacksonville.

We had 10 Elders go home this transfer. This is the group of missionaries that came out

with us -- can you believe it's been TWO YEARS?! It is always hard to see missionaries go home but it is always special to be able to see the growth that takes place in their lives and to hear their testimonies.

It's always exciting to receive new missionaries, This transfer we received 7 elders and 1 sister!

ZONE LEADERS COUNCIL

Another Zone Leaders Council. They happen monthly and it is one of the best meetings we have. We learn what's really happening in the mission through the leadership of the Zone Leaders. We discuss issues and problems of the mission and together we solve the problems. The Spirit is always guiding us.

FLORIDA ORLANDO MISSION HISTORY

Florida has a deep Mormon heritage, going back as far as 1843. Traveling elders were occasionally sent into Florida until the Florida conference was officially organized November 1, 1895, which conference was within the Southern States Mission. In 1937, the first chapel in central Florida was built in Orlando. In 1950, the church established what is now officially called Deseret Cattle and Citrus Ranch in Osceola County, southeast of Orlando. Today the Church owns 316,000 acres covering three counties, making it the largest cattle ranch in Florida. Orlando was the second Florida stake, and was organized on February 23, 1958.

On November 1, 1960 the Florida Mission was created out of the Southern States Mission. This was the fist mission for the State of Florida. The original Florida mission was divided into the Florida South Mission July 1, 1971, then later into the Ft. Lauderdale Mission (June 1974); the Tampa Mission being created in 1976, and the Jacksonville Mission in July of 1987.

The Florida Orlando Mission is now graced to have within its boundaries the Church Ranch and the first temple of the church in Florida, the Orlando Temple.
